NOCAD Beyond the Game Professional Speakers
Scott Shanle grew up on a farm in small town Nebraska is a great example of how hard work and dedication can help you accomplish your dreams. At the young age of eight years old, he dreamt of running out of the tunnel at Memorial Stadium and playing football for the University of Nebraska, as well as in the NFL.
Despite a successful career in eight man high school football in rural Nebraska, Shanle was not heavily recruited to play major college football. Although the odds were stacked against him, Shanle opted to walk on at the University of Nebraska fulfilling a childhood dream. After only 6 months with the program he would earned a scholarship. From there he went on to become a three-year starter and one of the most heralded defenders on the Nebraska daunted Blackshirts defense.
As he entered the NFL, she only was once again largely overlooked. He snuck into the 2003 NFL Draft, being drafted by the St Louis Rams with a 37th pic of the 7th and final round. Through hard work, he defied the odds once again, putting together a 10 year NFL career where he spent time with the St. Louis Rams, Dallas Cowboys, and the New Orleans Saints.
In 2008, he was voted by his coaches and teammates as the Saints defensive MVP. Shanle would also serve as the team's leader defensively in 2009, as he led New Orleans with 23 postseason tackles on their way to winning Super Bowl XLIV.
Scott enjoys speaking to students and athletes about his personal journey and story of hard work, overcoming obstacles and goal setting.
When presenting to teachers and coaches Scott ties his personal experience with influential teachers and coaches who were responsible for helping him obtain his goals.
Scott can also deliver a moving presentation to parents regarding the pitfalls of pushing their sons or daughters too hard. Scott believes young students and athletes need to follow their passion, so that when obstacles happen they can be equipped to overcome and fight thru adversity.
